New Delhi: Intuitive, a global medical technology company, has appointed Rohitt Mahajan as vice president and general manager for India. He will lead the company’s business operations and strategy in the country, focusing on expanding access to robotic-assisted surgery.
Leadership Shift to Strengthen Market Presence
Mahajan has been with Intuitive since 2018, previously serving as area sales director for India and director of commercial operations for Asia. His new role comes at a time when India’s healthcare sector is seeing increasing adoption of minimally invasive surgical techniques.
With 17 years of experience in healthcare, consumer durables, and IT, Mahajan has worked on expanding Intuitive’s operations in India, China, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. His appointment is expected to strengthen the company’s collaborations with hospitals and healthcare providers in India.
Intuitive’s Expanding Operations in India
Intuitive has been directly operating in India since 2018, working with private and government hospitals, medical institutes, and state medical colleges. The company has invested $6 million in four training centres, including one at AIIMS New Delhi, to support skill development in robotic-assisted surgery.
There are currently over 180 da Vinci surgical programs in India, with more than 850 trained surgeons performing over one lakh procedures. To further expand its footprint, Intuitive recently set up a global capability centre (GCC) in Bengaluru, handling IT support, enterprise analytics, software quality, human resources, and post-market surveillance.
Mahajan, in a statement, emphasized his focus on working with surgeons and healthcare executives to improve patient access to robotic-assisted surgery in India. His leadership will play a role in shaping Intuitive’s growth in the Indian healthcare market.
