Mumbai: Cipla has appointed Achin Gupta as its new Global Chief Operating Officer (GCOO), effective February 1, 2025. Gupta, who currently serves as CEO of Cipla’s One India Business, will step into the new role following approval from the company’s Board of Directors on January 28, 2025.
Strategic Leadership and Industry Experience
Gupta joined Cipla in 2021 and has been a key part of the company’s management council. Under his leadership, Cipla’s One India Business expanded its presence in chronic therapies, increased its reach in smaller cities, and strengthened its wellness and trade generics segments. He also played a role in forming strategic partnerships with multinational pharmaceutical companies to support Cipla’s licensing and innovation efforts.
Before Cipla, Gupta held leadership roles at Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, Abbott, and management consulting firm AT Kearney. At Glenmark, he oversaw business operations across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) and served on key industry boards. He has experience in product development, licensing, and portfolio strategy, making him a key player in Cipla’s global expansion plans.
Shift Towards Digital Health and Innovation
During his tenure at Cipla, he focused on digital transformation, launching Cipla Digital Health and other consumer-focused initiatives. His efforts have positioned Cipla as a patient-centric organization, integrating digital tools to improve healthcare accessibility.
Gupta holds an M.Tech in Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology from IIT Delhi and an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad. With over two decades of experience in the pharmaceutical sector, his new role as GCOO will involve overseeing Cipla’s global operations, with a focus on growth and operational efficiency.
