New Delhi: The Steel Authority of India Limited’s (SAIL) IISCO Steel Plant (ISP) has partnered with IIT (ISM) Dhanbad’s TEXMiN Foundation to foster innovation in mining and metallurgy. The collaboration aims to develop advanced technologies and improve workforce skills through targeted training programs.
Focus on Skill Development and Innovation
The partnership prioritizes creating specialized training modules and hands-on learning experiences for workforce development in the mining and steel sectors. Case studies and simulations on steelmaking processes will form the core of these initiatives. Both organizations aim to address skill gaps by preparing industry professionals and students for emerging challenges in mining and metallurgy.
A Step Towards Safe, Smart, and Sustainable Mining
This partnership also focuses on integrating technology to achieve “3S Mining”—Safe, Smart, and Sustainable mining practices. IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and SAIL plan to use process optimization and digital transformation to support industry-wide efforts in sustainability and innovation.

The agreement was signed at a ceremony in Burnpur, with key officials from both sides, including Brijendra Pratap Singh, Director In-Charge of Burnpur and Durgapur Steel Plants, and Sukumar Mishra, Director of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. Speaking on the collaboration, Singh emphasized its potential to leverage technological expertise to drive growth and innovation in mining and steelmaking.
